Can Serra Museu de Mataró

School tourism

The Mataró Museum is a multidisciplinary institution linked to the territory, and whose diverse collections include archaeological materials, natural specimens, historical objects, and artistic and decorative arts. It offers stable research and dissemination programs (exhibitions, publications, school activities, visits...) and houses a natural science documentation center and the archaeological management area of the city of Mataró.

The Museum headquarters is located in Can Serra, a fortified Renaissance building dating from 1565. The ground floor is used for temporary exhibitions, while the first and second floors present in a synthetic manner two of the main themes of the exhibition program of the museum. The exhibition Iluro, Roman city offers a visit to the Mataró of Roman times, which excavations in recent years have enabled us to become better acquainted with. On the second floor, the exhibition Mataró, Mediterranean city takes a look at the history of the city from medieval times to the present.
