Vilassar de Mar

Description

Vilassar de Mar is a municipality located on the Maresme coast that has a rich maritime heritage and a valuable architectural heritage that tells the story of the people of Vilassar who, at the end of the 19th century, undertook the crossing to America in search of better fortune.

In its beginnings, Vilassar de Mar was a fishing village that saw many of its inhabitants leave for America, mainly to Cuba. On their return, they built homes with a distinctive architectural style that is still seen in local architecture.

On the cultural level, the Enric Monjo Museum stands out, which houses the works of this local painter and reflects the artistic sensibility rooted in the community. We also highlight the Carme Rovira House Museum, a painter from Vilassar who bequeathed her private house to the municipality and turned it into a house museum with a permanent exhibition with a selection of her works. All of the artist's works are preserved in the Municipal Museum and his house and garden are an extension of the Museum. And let's not forget the Torre d'en Nadal, and the modernist style buildings on the waterfront.

Vilassar de Mar is also known for its beaches and for the tradition of the floriculture industry, with its Flower and Ornamental Plant Market.
