Description
Caldes d'Estrac, also known as Caldetes, is a municipality located in the Maresme region, very close to the city of Barcelona and a short distance from Girona. It can be reached by the C-32 highway and by train with the Rodalies R1 line. The town has several tourist attractions that make it an area visited by people from all over during all seasons of the year.
You can enjoy the town of Caldes d'Estrac from multiple sides such as cultural and historical, with the self-guided tourist and cultural route, the literary and poetic route, the Palau Foundation, an art center that exhibits sixty works belongint to genius Picasso, and also houses the Tourist Office.
The Thermal water is another highlight of our municipality that attracts many visitors. The thermal baths have been throughout history the main attraction in Caldetes. Since the times of the Romans - who called the place Aquae Calidae - and, subsequently, of the Arabs, people from all eras and cultures have enjoyed the waters of Caldes for its characteristics, especially indicated for health.
Located in the middle of the town, next to Plaça de la Vila, the thermal baths date from the 19th century and are the only publicly owned ones in all of Catalonia. The waters emerge from an underground gallery at a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius. Due to their composition and classification, they are mesothermal waters, bicarbonated, sodium chlorinated, hypotonic, of medium mineralization and of very soft hardness, indicated for rheumatic conditions or osteoarthritis; respiratory conditions; affections of the locomotor system and sequelae of osteoarticular trauma, uric and oxalic calculosis, and chronic inflammations in the urinary tract.
The beaches and promenade of Caldes d'Estrac are today - as they were in the past - a special attraction for all those who want to enjoy the good weather and take a dip in the sea. Caldes beaches have on several occasions obtained the highest distinction of quality for the excellence of their facilities, the Blue Flag, awarded every year by the European Union.
Finally, there are many visitors who approach Caldes with the reference of the local gastronomy, which offers a wide range of restaurants and celebrations such as La Pesolada, with the local variety of Pèsol de la Floreta, during the spring .
Festivals and traditions are also deeply rooted in Caldes. Village of 'giants' and Correfoc that show off the figures of popular culture for the Major Festival which, on the occasion of its patron saint the Virgin Remei, many events are organized on September 8. The Festa Major Petita, on December 13, is celebrated in honor of Santa Llúcia and offers an attractive program for the time of year in which it is celebrated.
