Espai d’Art Cinètic Jordi Pericot

The Espai d’Art Cinètic Jordi Pericot opened in late 2011 and has the only permanent collection of kinetic art in Spain, fruit of the artist’s donation to the El Masnou town council. This modern space exhibits the entire range of Jordi Pericot’s work, divided into six sections that retrace the different stages in his artistic development.

Jordi Pericot (el Masnou, 1931) began his artistic career in France, where he was introduced to the techniques of experimental cinema. On his return, he was a prominent cultural figure, especially in his research into kinetic art.

Kinetic art is a strand based on the aesthetics of movement. In some cases, the works introduce engines and other energy sources; in others, as in the case of Jordi Pericot, optical effects are created to simulate movement and encourage observers to change position in front of the works to experience their effects.
