Gastronomic days of the Maresme
El Maresme is one of the great orchards of the country, rich in local products, as demonstrated by the gastronomic days that are scheduled throughout the year, testimony to the richness and variety of the culinary culture of the region.
Some of their products have acquired a good reputation, such as floreta peas and garrofal, around Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Caldes d'Estrac and Mataró; strawberries from Vallalta and cherries from Roca de Arenys de Munt (in spring); the Maresme pink tomato (in summer); squid, praws, crayfish and clams from Arenys de Mar; the ganxet beans from Malgrat de Mar and Palafolls, and the mushrooms from the lower Maresme (in autumn).
Pea time in Maresme
The pea, also known as "the green pearl of the Maresme", is one of the legumes with the greatest tradition in our region. With the arrival of spring and good weather, during the months of March and April, numerous localities organize gastronomic dissemination activities for this local product, both precious and valued in the kitchen and on the table.
The Maresme pea has been classified as a unique product of the region and deserves to be the protagonist of the "Pea Time" Gastronomic Days, organized by the Maresme Tourism Promotion Consortium and in which you can enjoy tasting menus and dishes made with Maresme peas in restaurants, buy delicacies in artisan shops and fill your basket directly from producers.
Strawberry Time in Maresme
With the arrival of the month of May, the season of one of the most famous products of our land begins: the Maresme Strawberry. And with it, the "Strawberry Time" Gastronomic Days begin, organized by the Maresme Tourism Promotion Consortium to promote this appreciated fruit of our land to gourmets inside and outside the region.
During these days, producers, restaurateurs, processors and pastry shops work together to offer diners unique dishes with all types of preparations. And the strawberry is one of the most versatile fruits in the world of gastronomy, capable of pairing with exotic dishes such as sushi or functioning perfectly as a delicate dessert.
Currently, 4 varieties of strawberries are widely grown in the area: Pájaro (probably the best known), Albion, Gaviota and Monterrey.
DO Alella Wines
The cuisine of Maresme (with a predominance of fish stews and stews with local vegetables) has a proven complement: the Alella designation of origin, famous above all for the quality of its white wines. The DO Alella is an urban vineyard, located between the sea and the mountains.
The most characteristic vinifera variety of the area is the white raisin. White wines, the majority production, are the result of adding the virtues of various grape varieties. To discover the secrets of this excellent wine you can visit one of the Maresme wineries. You can also attend the Harvest Festival, in September, or the VI+, in October.
The Local Products Network of the Regional Council of El Maresme and the DO Alella Wine Tourism Consortium also collaborate in the days, which place Maresme on the Catalan gastronomic map.
